Torry Steele

Torry Steele grew up in both Massachusetts and Connecticut and went on to study music at Central Connecticut State University, specializing in voice. A lifelong musician, she plays many instruments, but don’t ask her to play the piano or the guitar, those are a sore spot. At 24, she married her husband soon after he joined the military, beginning an adventure of traveling across the U.S. During college and the early part of her adult life, Torry was a professional performer, focusing on solo and chamber choir work. She has had the privilege of performing internationally as well as singing with professional choirs in Virginia and Texas.

When Torry became a mom to Violet (8), Wesley (6), and Autumn (2), she shifted her focus from music to family life. She fully embraces her role as a stay-at-home mom and takes pride in being closely involved in her children’s daily lives and their school community.

Torry dove headfirst into PTA as Vice President the year her family moved to the area and her oldest started 1st grade. The parents in the community were welcoming and incredibly helpful as she began to navigate the ins and outs of the school. She was delighted to learn that the PTA is nothing like in the movies but is instead a warm, welcoming, and supportive group.

Beyond home and family, Torry is deeply passionate about community advocacy at the federal, state, and local level. She uses her PTA platform to advocate for strong public education and meaningful support for students and teachers. Last year, she traveled to Richmond with the Virginia PTA to meet with legislators at the General Assembly, where she successfully advocated for better state funding. Her efforts contributed to lifting the staff support cap and securing more resources for special education. Torry also stood up for her school when FCPS presented budget cuts, pushing to secure funding for Advanced Academic Resource Teachers and Special Education Department Chairs.

Outside of PTA and advocacy work, Torry is an enthusiastic (though somewhat mediocre) CrossFitter. She also spends much of her time shuttling her kids to activities, something she jokes makes her a “glorified Uber driver.” Through it all, she remains dedicated to her family and her community, and she would not have it any other way.
